[White Paper] Advanced Applications of Electronic Gearing Part 2
Part 2 of 3: Positional Correction on Color Print Rollers in Offset Printing
Introduction
This is the second of three advanced electronic gearing topics discussed in this series of papers. The first paper covered tension control on a spindle, while the third will cover writing on a moving conveyor system. To view Part 1 click HERE.
Definition
This topic covers positional corrections of geared color print rollers on a web style, offset printing machine. Figure 1 shows material being pulled through three printing rollers, each a different color. The second and third rollers are geared to the first with a 1:1 ratio. Each roller must be properly aligned so that as the material is pulled through, the printed colors line up. In a perfect world, this can be calculated knowing the distance in-between rollers and the radius of the rollers.

Introducing GDK's Scope and Tuner Tools
The Galil Design Kit (GDK) is Galil's newest software environment that provides easy communication with Galil's motion controllers and PLCs. Galil has recently introduced the new Scope and Tuner to GDK's growing list of tools and capabilities. All tools are customizable by editing the XLM that's located in the “More Options” menu at the top right corner of the GDK software.
[Application Note] Tuning a Piezomotor DMC-30019 and LEGS Piezoelectric Motor for High Resolution Motion Control
When dealing with high resolution applications where positioning down to the nanometer level is required, choosing the right hardware is critical. For systems such as these, a piezoelectric motor is often selected over a conventional electromagnetic motor. Piezoelectric motors have excellent positioning accuracy, high speed capabilities, and minimal electromagnetic interference. This makes them an excellent candidate for applications where high precision and speed is required over small distances, as well as for applications in sensitive environments.
