On the market for five years, Galil’s RIO Pocket PLC provides a cost-effective, compact and intelligent solution for programmable I/O control. Standard features of the RIO-47xxx series include 32 digital and 16 analog I/O, program memory with multitasking, PID process control loops, timers, counters, web interface, email alerts, datalogging, Ethernet and RS232 ports.
The new RIO-47142 adds greater flexibility for easily connecting multiple RIO units. The RIO-47142 has an internal 10/100 BaseT Ethernet switch with two ports which allows an unlimited number of RIOs to be daisy-chained together without an external switch. Galil’s DMC-30000 Pocket Motion Controller also has two Ethernet ports allowing it to be daisy-chained to RIOs as well. The extra Ethernet port on the RIO-47142 and DMC-30000 reduces system costs and speeds system set-up when multiple controllers are required.
Other features that are standard on the RIO-47142 are expanded memory (400 program lines, 254 variables, 1000 array elements, 6 PID control loops and 5 Ethernet handles), 16 high-power 500mA optically isolated outputs, 16 optically isolated inputs, and 8 each analog inputs and outputs that are user-configurable for +/-10V, +/-5V, 0-10V or 0-5V. The RIO-47142 is the latest in a series of RIO models that have been released since the introduction of the Pocket PLC series. Table 2 shows currently available RIO models and their features.

The RIO-47142 is $415 in single quantity and $305 in quantities of 100. The RIO-47142 will be available for shipment in December 2012.
