Application Note #2425

Gearing Acceleration Using Superimposed Profile Method

Learn how to implement smooth gearing acceleration in Galil motion controllers using the superimposed profile method. This application note explains how to avoid instantaneous slave axis engagement by blending PR moves with GR commands to create controlled acceleration ramps. The technique uses negative PR moves with maximum acceleration combined with gear ratio commands to achieve smooth transitions when engaging or disengaging gearing operations, particularly useful when the master axis is already in motion.
