| 1. |
Talk to your children
about the move, and share your excitement for your
new home. Show them their new rooms, and where the
bathrooms, kitchen and your bedroom are located.
Introduce them to any neighbors that have children
around the same age. Show them their new school,
playground, parks and area zoos. |
 |
| 2. |
Keep to your normal
routine, and get them involved in the packing and
planning, when appropriate. |
| 3. |
Let them decide what
toys, stuffed animals, blanket and books they want
to leave out. Consider having them pick out a new
toy that will be saved until the day of the move.

|
| 4. |
Explain why
you are moving, and encourage your children to
communicate their feelings and thoughts about the
move. |
The
Day of the Move
Have the children's favorite toys and books
available.
Have their favorite lunch or snack prepared, or plan
a special treat for this special day.
Make the day seem like an exciting adventure. The
calmer you are, the easier it will be on the kids.
Make arrangements for a babysitter to be there to
leave you free to supervise the move.
|
| 5. |
Let them
know how any pets will get to their new home.
Prepare a bag of toys and blankets for your pets to
ensure their comfort, as well. |
| 6. |
Call out for a pizza or
something fun for your first meal at your new home. |
